It’s been a couple weeks since I last blogged! I think the last blog I put out was actually for my birthday and let me tell you, a lot has happened since then.
The transition to moving to a place we’ve never been to has been a little rocky, but we are finally settling in and experiencing this beautiful state. It’s kind of crazy to think about it because we haven’t done that much and if we were to continue on with our plan to travel to a new state every 3 months, we’d be leaving in 4 weeks!
We’ve come to realize that 3 months in a state is not enough time to explore and it’s comforting to call a place home.
Trail Running
Trail running is actually very popular in Bozeman. I soon realized that trail running out here vs back in Maine is very different! Back in Maine when people said they wanted to do trail running, it was trails through the woods with some elevation gain. Don’t get me wrong it’s still tough!
Trail running out here is actually running up mountains. Jake and I thought, “what the heck, why not give it a shot!” We picked a short and less difficult trail to start us off. It was at the College M trail in Bozeman and the trail was about 2.5 miles round trip with 800ft of elevation gain.
OMG! It felt great once we were finished but it was TOUGH! It started out with a slow jog up the mountain, then turned into a fast walk up the mountain, then back to a slow jog.
Jake and I eventually want to do a race, but we’ll have to work up to it. There’re runners here that will run up mountains that are 2,000+ feet of elevation gain. It’s been fun to try something new and a new challenge that we can conquer together.

Hiking
We’ve did one hike the other weekend with Cassie that was beautiful. It was called Lower Mount Ellis located right in Bozeman, about 20 minutes from our apartment. This hike has been quite eye opening for me because it was my first hike that I wasn’t able to complete. We climbed 1,800ft and had about 700 more feet of elevation gain to reach the peak. I was recently diagnosed with untreated asthma and my dr. was describing some of the symptoms to look out for.

Next thing I know my throat felt weird, I felt like I couldn’t catch my breath or get enough air in my lungs, my whole head was becoming congested, and I was a little dizzy.
This hike is nowhere near close to some of the more difficult hikes we’ve done. My ego crept in and said “eh, I can finish this hike”. Jake put his foot down and said “No, we are turning around. We’re not going to try to finish the hike for your asthma to potentially get worse”.
Whenever you hear those stories of people dying in the White Mountains, it’s sometimes because their ego gets in the way, and they think they’re invincible. I don’t believe I would have died but who knows what could have happened and I’m thankful to have a partner that recognizes when I’m not thinking straight.
We safely made it back down the mountain and my symptoms started to clear up.
I’m not writing this to scare any friends or family that may be reading this but I’m writing this for those to realize that sometimes we need to put our egos aside and ensure we are taking care of ourselves no matter what situation we are in.
There will always be another day, another peak to conquer!
Teaching Cassie to Swim
When we adopted Cassie, who would have thought that she would be learning to swim in Montana! We have been bringing her to different dog parks to try out, but we found her favorite one that’s 5 minutes from our home.
It’s called Gallatin Regional Dog Park that has a HUGE fenced in area and in the middle is a pond with a dog beach and dock. We know Cassie loves it at this park because every time we open the gate, she has the biggest zoomies and smile on her face. It melts our hearts.
Anyways, we quickly learned that Cassie has no idea how to swim. She was completely vertical in the water, splashing around with her front paws. Let’s just say she didn’t get very far, so we got her a life jacket.
The next time we brought her, she didn’t want to leave the beach. We have a little water girl on our hands.

Food
We’ve tried a couple more places in the last week or so. We were talking the other day and realized we’ve just about tried all the ice cream places in Bozeman (HA). I also realized I didn’t take any pictures of the most recent place we went to for ice cream, so we’ll have to go back so I can get some pictures 😉
MacKenzie River Pizza

Jake got the Hot Hawaiian which was Sweet & smoky BBQ sauce, mozzarella, fajita
chicken, smoked bacon, and pineapples.
I got the BBQ chicken pizza which was fajita chicken or with sweet & smoky BBQ sauce, red
onions, mozzarella & cheddar cheese on gluten free crust.
They were both DELCIOUS! We will be back there again.
Super Chix

I promise you, I did not get just a bed of lettuce! I got a grilled chicken sandwich in a lettuce wrap and a M&M custard treat.
Jake got the crispy avocado which was fried chicken, bacon, avocado, their sauce and your normal lettuce and tomato toppings. Also, a mint oreo custard treat.
This was a great option that’s quick and really tasty! However, we both thought the custard was very heavy and would get a much smaller size in the future.
Jake’s New Softball Team
There is seriously so much to do here but it made me very happy for Jake that he was able to find a sober community that he can relate to. He soon realized that his new home group has a softball team.
He has been crushing it too! I don’t know much about softball, or the terms associated with it but I know when he makes a good play!
I also learned that unfortunately dogs are not allowed at city parks in Bozeman so Cassie will not be enjoying the view with me.

We are slowing settling in here and so are the animals ❤
