Celebrating a Birthday in Bozeman

Long time no talk! It’s been a week or so since I’ve put out a post. The move to Bozeman has had its hurdles but we are keeping our heads up and pushing forward.

We’ve definitely have done some exploring in Bozeman, we were hoping to get in more hiking in by now, but we learned that it’s still winter hiking until the mid/end of May. That is a lot different than back in Maine/NH!

Winter hiking out here is also something that we need to do a ton of research on because Jake has done winter hikes in the White Mountains, but the terrain and conditions are a lot different out here. We would also need to get winter hiking gear/equipment.

It’s always important to keep safety in the back of your mind and understand that you are not invincible when it comes to being in the wilderness.

Anyways, back to the purpose of this post!

We celebrated my 31st birthday! It’s weird because I don’t feel that old, but I certainly don’t feel 21 years old anymore.

I missed not celebrating with the rest of my friends and family, but it was a great day with my husband and our little family!

Storm Castle Peak

We did our first real hike this weekend! It was Storm Castle Peak in Custer Gallatin National Forest which had about 1860 ft of elevation gain.

It was absolutely beautiful! I’m going to have to expand my vocabulary soon because everything to me out here is just beautiful, there’s just no other way to describe it.

Most of the peaks out here start at a higher elevation, so when we got to the top we were sitting just under 8,000 feet. It’s definitely going to take some time getting use to because when we first started the hike we could feel it in our lungs, like we weren’t able to take full breathes. At first, I thought it was just me being out of shape or my asthma! LOL But then Jake mentioned it too. After the first .5 to 1 mile, things started getting back to normal.

We saw bear paw prints but no bears yet!

Suprise call from Belle

Before dinner I got a special call from my niece (best friend’s daughter) to wish me happy birthday.

Not only did she wish me a happy birthday, but she sang Happy Birthday to me as well!

It melted my heart because she was so excited to talk to me and see Cassie too.

She asked if she could come over the next morning for a playdate but I’m a little too far away right now.

I can’t wait to see her soon!

Revelry

Jake told me to pick out a restaurant and after some research, I picked Revelry in downtown Bozeman! It got a lot of reviews on a few different gluten free blogs that I follow so I thought we could give it a try.

It did not disappoint! For appetizers, we got cauliflower wings which was Asian style served with miso bleu cheese dressing, Japan chicken which was hand-dredged fried chicken, sweet chili sauce, togarashi, house cured pickles, and green onion. It was all gluten free and delicious! Even Jake was impressed.

For our entrees, Jake got the Bison meatloaf which was a house-made bison meatloaf, roasted carrots, mashed potatoes & scallion demi. I got PASTA ALLA RUSSA which was a house-made pipe rigate pasta, pecorino, red sauce, charred ricotta, fresh herbs, herb infused olive oil and grilled chicken.

Michoacan A Pedir De Boca

Last but not least, we just had to try out a new ice cream place! For those that have been following our journey, I’m sure you’re not surprised.

We were so excited for it, that I didn’t remember to take a picture until we were almost finished.

Jake got a churro donut and a key lime shake. I got mint chocolate chip and cookie monster ice-cream with sprinkles. Jake said it’s his favorite ice cream shop yet!

Oh and the answer to the question from my last blog post: “What’s behind the blue curtain?”
It’s our roof rack!
