Finding Inspiration After a Tough Weekend

We are back!

It’s been a week or two since I’ve sent out a post and to be honest, I haven’t felt much inspiration to write a blog. Whenever I begin to write, the words usually flow with ease. However, during the past few weekends when I attempted to write, the results were disorganized and chaotic.

Several subscribers asked if I was okay due to my recent absence in blogging. I assure you, I’m fine; I was simply experiencing a lack of inspiration!

Anyways let’s take a step back to a couple of weekends ago. Jake was studying for the weekend for his next exam, so I decided to take Cassie on a trail run. I’ve done this trail once or twice before but apparently this time the trail got the best of me. Not only did I fall once, but I fell TWICE!

Both times that I took a tumble, Cassie came running back to me and sat next to me until I was able to get up. I was so impressed with her because a year ago she would have bolted to find some dog friends to play with.

Luckily, I was able to stand up and walk it off. I called Jake when I got back to the car and told him about my battle wounds. Little did he know my knee was dripping in blood and my shin was skinned up.

Later that night, my foot was in so much pain I couldn’t move it and could only put a little pressure on it. Jake ended up taking me to urgent care and I was so afraid I fractured something, but it was just a really bad sprain. When I fell, I did feel my ankle roll a little bit but with my adrenaline going, it wasn’t painful, so I just pushed through.

For those of you that are thinking “what if it was worse and you were out in the woods!?” One thing that I really love about my Garmin watch is that it has an emergency setting on it, so if I were to take a really bad fall it would send my GPS location to my two emergency contacts. It sets my mind at ease because even if I don’t have service I can send for help. It actually went off when I was on my backpacking trip when I fell, so I know it works!

Technology these days is pretty cool!

The situation left me feeling quite disheartened; I was unable to take Cassie for walks, hit the gym, or enjoy hiking. Confined to the couch, I tried to rest my foot as much as possible, which led to me going a little stir crazy.

I’ve realized this was just a minor inconvenience and it could have been a whole lot worse!

Storm Castle Peak

Last weekend while I was down and out with a bum foot, Jake went on his own trail run and came back in one piece! This trail was actually one of our first hikes that we did on my birthday back in May.

Out and back trail | 1860 ft elevation gain | 5.2 miles

Storm Castle offers an absolutely stunning hike in Custer Gallatin National Forest. It’s remarkable to see in some of the photos how the peaks are dusted with snow. It’s quite astonishing! Even though some higher elevations receive occasional snowfall, it typically melts away throughout the day.

Homemade food and Desserts

Jake and I have decided to limit our dining out to 2-3 times a week, but that doesn’t mean we’re not enjoying delicious meals, and there will definitely be more reviews to come.

Can you believe these treats are vegan and gluten free?!

I couldn’t believe it when I spotted them at the Farmers Market.

  • Blueberry scone
  • Cinnamon roll
  • Chocolate roll

I prepared a meatball pasta bake with broccoli and mozzarella cheese, which turned out to be an effortless and tasty recipe.

The photo shows the “regular” version I prepared for Jake. The dairy-free and gluten-free one isn’t pictured because I started eating it before I had the chance to take a photo.

Pasture’s Drive In

What an experience this was! We have slowly been making friends here in Bozeman which feels so good! Funny story. We sold our Thule cargo bin to a woman on Facebook Marketplace who does backpacking trips for women.

Little did we know her and her husband would become some of our first friends here! They invited us this past weekend to the drive in in Manhattan, MT where we met another couple that joined us! It was an absolute blast.

At the snack shack, you could find popcorn, candy, and cow patties. Contrary to what Jake and I believed, a cow patty wasn’t a hamburger but simply fried dough! Additionally, there was a fire pit to warm up by and a pizza station as well.

The movie being played was “Night at the Museum,” which I hadn’t seen in a long time, so I was thrilled! It’s wild how cold it becomes here after sunset. We had to wrap ourselves in blankets to keep warm.

What’s next?!

With temperatures expected to drop into the 60s next week, trail running and hiking may soon come to an end. It looks like weekends will be filled with football until the ski season begins in the mountains!

In a few weeks, we’ll be heading to Salt Lake City to watch the Bruins game. I’ve always wanted to visit Salt Lake, so I’m sure it will be exciting to explore the area.
