Hiking Blackmore Mountain | First 10,000-Footer

Happy Labor Day weekend! Can you believe it’s already September!?

It’s been a low key past couple weeks here which has been nice with all the hustle and bustle that’s been going on. We’ve been living in Bozeman for about 4 months now, it’s wild how fast time goes by.

It’s been a journey to say the least, but I wouldn’t trade it for anything! Not many people are able to travel across the country and settle down in an area where you know no one.

Mackenzie River Pizza

If you’ve been following along with our journey, you might recognize this restaurant as we’ve been here before! It’s a delicious restaurant with a great atmosphere. There’s also a separate gluten free menu which is always a win for me.

Originally, I thought this was the only location but there’s actually 28 total locations around the Midwest and western United States.

Gluten free Cheese Pizza

I got a cheese pizza with chicken, bacon and a side of BBQ sauce to drizzle on top.

Mackenzie Alfredo Pasta

Jake decided to try a pasta dish instead of pizza.

Seasoned chicken, prosciutto, broccoli and tomatoes, tossed with creamy alfredo sauce, penne and parmesan.

Mount Blackmore

12.8 out and back | 10,154 ft elevation | total time: 4.5 hours

What an extraordinary hike Mount Blackmore was! Blackmore mountain is very popular among trail runners as the terrain is mostly smooth until you get closer to the peak.

One of the local running groups took on this hike this past Saturday as well. It was a challenging trek for me, so it’s incredible seeing some of the locals running it.

We are both hoping to tackle this mountain next summer as a trail run. I know Jake could run this mountain without any issues, but I’ll need to work my way up to it. We celebrated with a little candy once we reached the peak because even though we just walked/hiked the trail, it was still an incredible accomplishment.

On the other side of the mountain, we saw a herd of mountain goats. I was really surprised as to how big they were! Males weigh around 260 pounds while females weigh between 120 and 200 pounds. When I heard others talking about mountain goats, I didn’t actually realize how big they actually are!

When we decided to hike our first 10,000-footer, we figured there would be great views, and it far exceeded our expectations. It was stunning at the top and even Cassie enjoyed being on the peak as well. Our little girl isn’t scared of anything (besides fast rivers), she takes on the peaks and the narrow paths like a champ!

I have no idea what September will bring for adventures as I anticipate the weather to start trending cooler. We’ve been enjoying 80’s for the past couple of weeks so it’s just a matter of time we’ll start getting snow. That won’t stop us from enjoying our adventures so stay tuned for what’s to come!
